- Our First “Split-the-Watermelon” Game -
Last Friday, we received watermelon
from the young men’s division of the JA Matsumoto Highland
(JA stands for Japan Agricultural Cooperatives).
We lost no time in starting the “split-the-watermelon” game with their gift.

Cover your eyes and move toward the watermelon!
“Go to your right. More to the right. Oh no, now to your left!”
“Where in the world is that watermelon?”

“Meeen!” - Oh, this is a Kendo shout.
I was surprised to learn that some of our girls never done this before.
But it sort of makes sense.
After the 3.11 disaster, they hardly spent time outside.
And watermelon is not cheap to begin with.
It would be costly to purchase ones produced in Western parts of Japan
to minimize the impact of radiation.
The effect of radiation is being felt even in this small ordinary part of our summer life.
Our gratitude goes to the young men who brought the watermelon
so that the girls could have this precious experience.
The game was great fun
and it was wonderful to share the watermelon with everyone!!
