The Bespectacled Chef Makes Snacks -

The Bespectacled Chef Makes Snacks

2015-06-28

In order to introduce the books at her middle school, our “Bespectacled Chef”, who is on the school’s Library Committee, borrowed a book on making snacks. She intended to make snacks in the book as a way of introducing it. In two hours’ time, she made both “rice crackers” and “dorayaki” with all her might. (T/N: Dorayaki consists of two small pancakes with red bean jam in between them.)

(pic)

Midway, the girls who came to the kitchen on their study breaks kindly helped, and the delicious-looking snacks were completed.

This weekend, the sounds of the cicadas are echoing,

And the breeze feels very comfortable.

Matsumoto City Middle School Athletic Tournament

2015-06-15

The Matsumoto City Middle School Athletic Tournament was on June 13th and 14th.

One of our girls participated in kendo, and another in girls’ volleyball.

(pic)

The kendo girl, who often appears on this blog, was regrettably defeated in her first individual match, but it extended into overtime, and she showed us a good match.

I hope that she does her best to turn this frustration into motivation for next year.

The girls’ volleyball team ended up losing their match on the first day, but won their repechage the next day and advanced to the next round. Magnificent! They won the opportunity to compete in the Regional Tournament for Central Nagano.

Green Peas and Beef -

Green Peas and Beef

Today, we received a large amount of garden peas from our neighborhood community.

(We truly thank you for always giving us fresh vegetables!)

The pods had grown large, and ended up being tough, so we had the girls help out, and carefully shelled the peas one by one.

(pics)

After about forty minutes, we ended up with green peas.

(pic)

And then, the other day, my friend who is a dairy farmer wanted the girls to taste delicious meat, and kindly sent beef that was raised specially for his family.

(About an 8kg. chunk + sirloin)

(pics)

Our hearts are filled with gratitude for the many people who are supporting us in various ways.

Humbly putting both of our hands together

“Thank you for the food!!”

And then…

“That was a delicious meal!!”

We Had Our Ultrasound Thyroid Gland Checks -

Get-Together with the Boys Who Arrived From Fukushima

This year, two middle school boys have moved here through the Matsumoto Project’s new homestay-type program.

These boys are staying with host parents in Matsumoto City, while the girls live in the dorm house in the Shiga district.

Since these two boys arrived, it has been a huge excitement for the community.

Everyone in the neighborhood was kind enough to cheer these two on, sometimes bringing them home-cooked dishes. Their arrival has enriched the exchanges in the community, and so it has truly become the best start for Part Two of the “Matsumoto Model”.

These boys have joined after-school sports groups by now, and are smoothly adapting to school as well.

How great, how great

Since April, there surprisingly hasn’t been time for the boys to come to the dorm. However, this time Dr. Taneichi, one of our board members, was kind enough to come and conduct the ultrasound thyroid gland scans.

That being the case, the two boys received their scans, and while they were at it, had a gathering at the dorm.

They must have felt relieved and, all being from Fukushima, comfortable with each other; their spirits went way up, and it was hugely exciting. It seems as if there were various conversations about hometown topics.

Then, they made yakisoba together for dinner, and they enjoyed themselves with all their hearts. (^^)
